The ACIAR-UNDIP-IPB team held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with livestock farmers as an effort to develop local farming groups. This activity provided a space for dialogue and the exchange of ideas to achieve food self-sufficiency based on livestock commodities. The activity was held at Mandelika Baren Sampi Farmers Group in Tempit, Pengengat Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency.

This FGD, part of IndoDairy2 activity, focused on strengthening livestock farmers institutions. Farmers revealed that the main challenge in beef cattle development lies in feed supply. Dian Harjanti, Ph.D., the head of the UNDIP team, stated that a participatory partnership model for beef cattle could be a solution to this obstacle.

Several technical challenges faced by farmers were revealed during the discussion. The high production targets and market absorption in this area as potential key in developing beef cattle commodities through a participatory partnership scheme.
