Focus Group Discussion was help as part of partnership between FPP UNDIP-ACIAR Australia. It was held on Thursday, July 18th 2024 at Grand Candi Hotel Semarang. Workshop was opened by Mr. Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D as Vice of Rector IV. He delivered his speech about how important a partnership in this research to support government program for increasing local milk production so that imported milk could be reduced. Head of Livestock and Animal Health Services DINAS (Ir. Agus Wariyanto, S.IP., M.M.) gave a speech about the partnership in this research between UNDIP and IndoDairy2 is expected can improve small scale dairy farmer’s business and milk cooperative (KUDs) capacity at Central Java to support Central Java Government Program “National Centre Livestock= Lumbung Ternak Nasional”. IndoDairy 2 In-Country Project Coordinator for UNDIP (drh. Dian Wahyu Harjanti, Ph.D) stated that IndoDairy 2 is expecting to get support from Central Java dairy stakeholder to realize 3 aims of IndoDairy 2. IndoDairy 2 Project Leader (Assoc. Prof. David McGill) presented about Team Members and IndoDairy 2 goals. IndoDairy 2 Experts from University of Melbourne (Assoc.Prof. Margaret Ayre and Dr. Kaitlyn Height) presented about why they are here to get engagement for Central Java dairy stakeholder.
There were 59 participants who attended the FGD composed 7 districts/cities which are centers for dairy cattle in Central Java, representatives of dairy farmers, representatives of cooperative (KUD), representatives form milk processing industry, and policy makers in dairy sector. FGD started with a panel discussion. It was held to get more insight about what the government role to support KUDs; role of KUDs to improve farmer’s business through service provision and how milk processor supporting KUDs to improve farmer’s business. Panel discussion was representatived by drh, Meta Iqomah, M.Si (Dinas Salatiga); Mr. Randy Armahedi (Cimory); Ms. Heni Prihatinningsih (KUD Mojosongo); Mr. Seno (KUD Pesat) and Mr. Suyono (CV Anugerah Karya Utama).
Moreover, the second activity was : Breakout Rooms. Breakout Rooms was divided into 3 rooms that every rooms had representative from Provincial Government; District level; milk processor/feedmill; KUDs and farmers. At this session, participants had answered 3 questions: reflection from panel discussion; what the opportunities and constraints related to dairy industry and what are the training that participants given/got. Results from the FGD were: Dairy farmer’s skill have to be improved, It need more attention for milk chain in Central Java, It need clear partnership for all dairy stakeholder and its sustainability, and Government should concern to increase millennial farmers.
